This weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of our parish’s patroness: St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. St. Margaret Mary was a simple person; a sister who lived in the seventeenth century and had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In our school’s entry area, the words of St. Margaret Mary are inscribed on the wall: I need nothing but God and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus. What great love she had for God!
Below are the beautiful readings that will be used at Masses this weekend. As we celebrate the Feast of St. Margaret Mary, we ask her to pray for our parish and school, so that we may continue to grow in faith and in love of God.
First Reading – Song of Songs 8:6-7
Set me as a seal on your heart,
As a seal on your arm;
For stern as death is love,
Relentless as the nether world is devotion;
Its flames are a blazing fire.
Deep waters cannot quench love,
Nor floods sweep it away.
Were one to offer all he owns to purchase love,
He would be roundly mocked.
Second Reading – Ephesians 3:14-19
Brothers and sisters; I kneel before the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
that he may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory
to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner self,
and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, rooted and grounded in love,
may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge,
so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Gospel – Matthew 11:25-30
At that time Jesus answered: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal Him.
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart,
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”
